Does that delicious smell of coffee get you out of bed in the morning? Do you go out of your way to stop for a takeaway cappuccino during a busy day? Okay, so you’re an addict (like me). But don't panic, because the good news is that while it has some side-effects, there are many health benefits too.

I can’t get through a day without a cappuccino (or two) and in summer, I’m totally hooked on Freezochinos. But after finding out that it might be good for me, I’ve decided to stop worrying, and just enjoy my cuppa in peace.

So what does coffee offer, apart from a much-needed boost in the morning? We’re here to help you enjoy your caffeine a little more… and to help you feel a little less guilty when you’re on cup number three.

• Coffee improves energy levels. So this one is a no-brainer, but the fact is that a cup of coffee first thing in the morning is the best way to increase your energy levels and help take the exhaustion away.

• Some studies have shown that those who drink coffee have a lower risk of developing Parkinson's disease.

• Experts also say that coffee may protect against cirrhosis - the late stage of scarring of the liver caused by liver diseases such as hepatitis and chronic alcoholism.

• Coffee is a great anti-depressant, say experts, who add that a cup of coffee has been proven to make you feel happier. According to a super interesting study, women who drank four or more cups a day had a 20% lower risk of being depressed.

• Caffeine lowers the risk of liver and colorectal cancer.

• Some studies show that coffee drinkers have a 20% lower risk of having a stroke or getting heart disease… who knew?

• Your addiction to coffee could help you burn fat – now that’s a wonderful thought!

• It’s great for physical performance as caffeine is known to stimulate the nervous system.

• It lowers your risk of getting dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, so next time you’re keeping your brain active with puzzles, do so with a cup of coffee in hand.

Feeling better? We know we are. So enjoy your next cup of coffee in peace folks, but remember to skip the sugar and stick to fat-free milk. We don’t want to defeat the purpose here. And remember, everything in moderation!
